This is Adobe (Dobie), an apricot poodle or poodle mix.  We got him at the Fresno SPCA at 9mos and 7lbs.  Now he's 1yr 9mos and 12lbs.  He is great with the kids and the cats, well-behaved and fun.  He is a stellar frisbee catcher and first-rate ball-chaser.  He can get obsessive about it though, so we have to hide his toys if we don't want him pestering 24/7.  In the house he plays soccer with me, actually whacking the ball to me with his feet. We can take him anywhere, and everywhere we go people rave about what a beautiful dog he is. This picture doesn't do him justice.  We have lots of abandoned cats, too, but not enough room here to post all their pictures! Please don't buy a dog- rescue one from your local shelter, and get a cat there while you're at it.  Remember..... spay or neuter your pets!
Our SPCA s*cks.  I don't know how many times I went there before I got Dobie.  Every time I went there were purebreds dying (literally) for a home.  Black labs, Irish Setters, Golden retrievers, Beagles, Daschounds (sp?), even a Brussels Griffon and a Belgian Shepherd (sp?).  I called the Griffon rescue clubs off the internet and quickly someone came up from Santa Barbara to get him.  For the huge, beautiful black Shepherd it was too late and he died.  Did I mention Pit Bulls?  And more Pit Bulls?  So sad... who would adopt them besides some "homey" trying to get a tough dog?  The first dog I considered was a Westhighland Terrier (one of 3) who had been a breeder but was past her prime.  The day I was to take her home somehow she had been mistakenly given to someone else.  The second dog was a Shih Tsu. (Please forgive or correct my misspellings- I'm not a dog breeder)  Darling little dog.  Signed all the paperwork, had her spayed.  The day I went to pick her up another mistake- supposedly her owner had come for her.  Really not believable, and I was pretty mad.  It really is draining to keep going there knowing that only one dog is going to get a reprieve... Finally I decided to go back one more time.  There was little Dobie- not the most beautiful, kinda ratty looking, but when I took him out for a walk he was so friendly and calm I just knew he was the one. After a trip to the groomer he looked like a million bucks. They don't let you take them home the first day, so it was rough waiting, and he looked so sad when they put him back in the cage.  But what a trooper- first day he came home I took a nap and he curled right up with me like he'd always lived here.
NOTE:  Today Dobie got out the front door when the mailman came.  For some reason he felt threatened and pepper-sprayed him in the face before I could run the 5 feet to the door to grab him.  I had to wash his little face, and his eyes were swollen almost shut over an hour later. All I have to say is
"Pretty wuss to pepper-spray a poodle!".

Update: Hah! That was only a temp postman.  Our old postman's back and we are safe again from paranoid post-people.
